Artist's Description
This drawing started by choosing a piece of paper out of a pile of found scraps while my eyes were closed. The torn paper displayed curved lines, one straight line, and several tiny holes. This scrap became the top right corner of my drawing. The curved lines became the strip of coarse hair down the back of a hyena's neck, the straight line became the fishing line attached to a fishing hook, and the holes became some of the bubbles being formed by a startled minnow. The spotted African hyena gives the tiny minnow a menacing look. They both happen to be underwater, and a fishing hook just happens to be lowered between them!
About Michelle Miron-Rebbe
I grew up in the country in the "thumb" area of Michigan. The plants and animals of the nature that surrounded me every day have been featured in my art ever since I was a very young child, and they continue to have a major presence in my work even today. I enjoy working in so many artistic media, but drawing, painting, and photography are my true passions. I attended the University of Michigan School of Art & Design where I obtained my Bachelor of Fine Arts.
